Ann Arbor Learning Community Author Visit

Greetings!

Nice of you to stop by for a little reading.  I hope all is well. Me? I'm steady!

On 29 March 2013, I was invited to the Ann Arbor Learning Community to do an Author Talk with 4th - 8th graders who were in the final stages of celebrating Reading Month at their school.

Many of the students entered the gymnasium wearing pajamas and carrying pillows and blankets in honor of Pajama Day.  They assembled on the floor and made themselves very comfortable. I almost wanted to ease into some slippers, sit in a rocking chair, and relax with them.  Instead, I shared my writing story, read three chapters from Wrinkles Wallace: Knights of Night School, and answered some great questions from the students and staff.  After my presentation, I was even asked to sign some autographs. NICE!

Here are some pictures of my visit to the AALC

Thanks again for allowing me to participate in the Reading Month festivities! Next time I just might bring those slippers...

Steady,
Marquin

  1. As a teacher and writer like you, Marquin, I really appreciated this post. I love the pictures and it's easy to see that the children are so engaged in your story and impressed that their teacher is also an author. It's so important for us to lead by example, and you do a wonderful job of that!!

    1. Karen,

      Thanks for the kind words.

It was a great school visit. While I can hear the responses to my reading, it is somewhat hard to look up a lot to actually see the audience. I enjoy the pictures because they help me to see the event from a different perspective.

      Steady,
      Marquin

  2. Wrinkles didn't wear his pajamas for this event? Congrats again on transferring your wit and knowledge to kids across Michigan ...and beyond.

I am very happy and honored that people are requesting me. I love doing the visits and promoting literacy.
